Hello, Bob and Nickole Harris here. Bob is a West Virginia native but we have spent most of our married lives in Oregon. In 2022 we visited Berkeley Springs and absolutely fell in love with this charming little town. We purchased the historical Castalian Hall, a hundred year old victorian home with beautiful bones and lots of personality to fulfill our dreams of becoming B&B owners. Nickole has worked in the accommodations and lodging industry for twenty years, and recently trained in a local bakery where she created delectable foods for those with food allergies. Bob works in home theater and internet services and is our go-to handyman. We bring our skills and our love for people together to create an enjoyable experience for our guests.
We are happy to share the newly remodeled Grand Castalian Inn in hopes you will be as enchanted with the home and the area as we were. Our goal is your comfort and to exceed your expectations, so please message us with any questions about the area and home.
The Grand Castalian Inn is one of two remaining structures that served as boarding houses for the Old Dominion Academy. The house was built by J.P. Hawvermale in 1905. The ODA moved to Morgan County in 1914 as a military academy, and 41 Pratt St was established for the housing of out-of-town students and named "Castalian Hall." No known record explains why, but some think it was named after Castalia, the daughter of the river-god Achelous. Named after the goddess, Castalian spring was said to be an inspiration for arists and the waters had cleansing properties, just like the springs in town. The ODA was the last private school established in the Town of Bath, but it burned in 1970. Castalian Hall is inside the market district of the National Registry.
